Overview

This tour combines your choice of touring Oak Alley or Laura Plantation, followed by a high-speed airboat ride through the famous cypress swamps and bayous of Bayou Barataria -- all in the same day!

Oak Alley Plantation was built in 1837 and is famous for its 28 evenly spaced, several hundred year-old Live Oaks that line the 1/4 mile path from River Road to the front of the plantation house. The guides are in period dress as they take you through the grand home, giving you the histories of its families, traditions and their home. There are additional attractions on the grounds including a restaurant, cafe and gift shop.

Laura Plantation was built and operated by four Creole women. The main house burned down in 2003, and an exact replica was built using wood and materials from other antique buildings. The rebuilding of the plantation house is a story in itself. You'll learn how the southern folk tale Br'er Rabbit was first recorded here as part of this unique tour and see the darker side of history -- its slave quarters. This tour has been consistently rated one of the nations best historic tours.

It is approximately a 1 hour 15 minute ride from the French Quarter to the Plantations. Restrooms are available at the plantations. Foldable wheelchairs are convenient for movement around the grounds and in the plantation house.

Then venture into the Barataria Swamps and Wetlands by Airboat!

You'll tour deep into a large tract of tidewater cypress swamp. Its dynamic ecosystem supports many types of aquatic and moist–soil vegetation, as well as a diverse wildlife population. You'll witness some of the most beautiful scenery around as we take you through the swamp and into the bayous lined with moss–draped cypress and tupelo–gum trees.

During your 1 hour 45 minute – 2 hour tour you'll have opportunities to see alligators, snakes, turtles, egrets, herons and ibis and, sometimes, hawks, owls and even bald eagles.

Whether you choose a small 6 passenger boat or a large 16 passenger airboat, you'll be fascinated with this beautiful and fast disappearing environment. Once you see what a natural wonder this delta area is, you'll understand the importance of saving not only the swamps, but a way of life of its people.

FAQ

My pickup time says "between 8:30AM-9AM?" Why the 30 minute window?

Coaches have to navigate throughout the Downtown?CBD (central business district) and French Quarter streets to pickup at the various hotels. Most tours have separate coaches for either area, though some tours use one coach. With the wide range of hotel stops, pedestrians and vehicle traffic it is impossible to give an exact time.

We ask for your cell phone contact number during the booking process so that the driver may get in touch with you directly, should he/she be running behind or is at your hotel and is waiting. To expedite the process, we ask our guests to be ready at the earliest pick-up time, and we certainly appreciate your understanding and patience.

Do any tours include snacks, meals or drinks?

No tours provide any snacks, drinks or meals. However, guests are always welcome to bring drinks and snacks on the coaches (please don't make a mess and dispose of your trash!) and for longer combo tours, guests are also welcome to bring their own lunches and if you advise us in the "comment" section of your order checkout, please mention that you'd like a cooler available.

During City Tours, there will be a short (approx. 20 minutes) break for guests to use the restroom or purchase snacks or drinks. At the airboat and swamp tour dock locations, there are also snacks and drinks available for purchase. On the Plantation Tours, Oak Alley has a full-restaurant as well as snack bar and several areas on the grounds for guests to purchase drinks in the warmer months. Laura Plantation offers light snacks (think chips, cookies, crackers) and drinks (water, sodas).

What is the pickup area for the tours? I don't see my hotel on the pickup list..

We've provided a handy map for you to search! The pickup area is shaded yellow.

We are only able to arrange hotel pickup in the French Quarter and Downtown/CBD area, as well as some of the Uptown area, out to approximately the 2100 block.

While not all hotels and properties are listed on our dropdown pickup menu (hotels and properties change names and owners frequently), rest assured, if you're located in the pickup area, we'll get'cha!

For those staying outside of the pickup area, we recommend quick & easy parking at the parking lot directly across from the Westin Canal Place, 100 Iberville St. Walk across the bricked street and have a seat under the awning and we'll pick you up there and drop you back. The lot is just a short walk from the French Quarter, Jackson Square and the French Market and other sights like like the riverfront park, ferry terminal and Audubon Aquarium.

Liked the plantation tour and airboat tour. However, the driver was awful. She was swerving and distracted when driving. Everyone on the bus was nervous and scared. She then stopped at plantation and got out and left us on bus with the door shut for over 10 minutes. She then came back and said not to get off the bus because she had parked us in the wrong area. Crazy behavior! Her mic was broke and no one could understand her. She acted annoyed that she was our guide! So wrong. (Posted on 10/21/2015)

We did the small air boat tour with Captain Junior. This was the highlight of our entire trip to the States and we loved every minute of it. Thanks for the awesome memories! (Posted on 5/14/2015)
