Overview

From the relaxed comfort of a covered swamp tour boat, drift past a 2000 year old Indian Burial Mound, a Cajun cemetery and Fishing village. See the wildlife that made the Barataria Swamps the Crown Jewel of the Louisiana Purchase. Birds, snakes, turtles, Nutria and Gators--Kings of the Swamp--are easily spotted in Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Gators hibernte during the cold winter months. On warmer days they'll come out to lie on the bayou banks and soak up the sun. So even in Winter, the native captains will sometimes find a sunning Gator on tour. The slow drift of the tour boats through moss draped trees and small waterways will provide ample opportunity for wildlife viewing and photography.

The swamp tours are fully narrated and the captains are natives of the Barataria Swamps with a background of gator hunting, fishing and trapping. They will entertain and amaze you with the ecology of the swampland. They have lived the life!

Your comfort is guaranteed and boats are specially designed for your comfort. They have a roof, restroom, cushioned seats, and windows that can be raised or lowered during cold or rainy weather, along with plenty of standing and walking room.

If it rains, you will not get wet. There are lexan windows that can be lowered to stop the wind and rain. If it is cold, bring a jacket or coat. Life vests are available but not necessary because the boat has side railing. The swamp tour boat is wheelchair accessible.

FAQ

My pickup time says "between 8:30AM-9AM?" Why the 30 minute window?

Coaches have to navigate throughout the Downtown?CBD (central business district) and French Quarter streets to pickup at the various hotels. Most tours have separate coaches for either area, though some tours use one coach. With the wide range of hotel stops, pedestrians and vehicle traffic it is impossible to give an exact time.

We ask for your cell phone contact number during the booking process so that the driver may get in touch with you directly, should he/she be running behind or is at your hotel and is waiting. To expedite the process, we ask our guests to be ready at the earliest pick-up time, and we certainly appreciate your understanding and patience.

Do any tours include snacks, meals or drinks?

No tours provide any snacks, drinks or meals. However, guests are always welcome to bring drinks and snacks on the coaches (please don't make a mess and dispose of your trash!) and for longer combo tours, guests are also welcome to bring their own lunches and if you advise us in the "comment" section of your order checkout, please mention that you'd like a cooler available.

During City Tours, there will be a short (approx. 20 minutes) break for guests to use the restroom or purchase snacks or drinks. At the airboat and swamp tour dock locations, there are also snacks and drinks available for purchase. On the Plantation Tours, Oak Alley has a full-restaurant as well as snack bar and several areas on the grounds for guests to purchase drinks in the warmer months. Laura Plantation offers light snacks (think chips, cookies, crackers) and drinks (water, sodas).

What is the pickup area for the tours? I don't see my hotel on the pickup list..

We've provided a handy map for you to search! The pickup area is shaded yellow.

We are only able to arrange hotel pickup in the French Quarter and Downtown/CBD area, as well as some of the Uptown area, out to approximately the 2100 block.

While not all hotels and properties are listed on our dropdown pickup menu (hotels and properties change names and owners frequently), rest assured, if you're located in the pickup area, we'll get'cha!

For those staying outside of the pickup area, we recommend quick & easy parking at the parking lot directly across from the Westin Canal Place, 100 Iberville St. Walk across the bricked street and have a seat under the awning and we'll pick you up there and drop you back. The lot is just a short walk from the French Quarter, Jackson Square and the French Market and other sights like like the riverfront park, ferry terminal and Audubon Aquarium.

Our family group of 8, ages 6 to 75, had a great Bayou Barataria Swamp Tour. The guide was informative, entertaining, knowledgeable, and clearly enjoyed showing us around. Couldn't have been better! Pick up and delivery made it very convenient, too. (Posted on 2/12/2017)

  2. Review by Chris Garber

It was the best! I am a retired educator on a retirement trip heading west. It is by far the best thing I have done in years! It was awesome with the alligators and many species of birds. The air boat is the best way to see the bayou (Posted on 7/27/2015)

  3. Review by Cassandra P.

My husband and I had a great time in the Louisiana swamps. Saw a few alligators. Our tour guide, Barry was very informative and fun. Would recommend to others. (Posted on 4/10/2014)
