  • Learn about America's first African-American neighborhood

Treme' was originally settled by Free People of Color; often referred to as Creoles, whose unique experience helped shape the civil rights movement. It is the hallmark of African-American history not to be missed. Today, Treme' is home to artists, musicians, and craftsmen and is a living, breathing, joyful piece of New Orleans history.

Our walking tour begins at the most important laundromat in Rock and Roll history before venturing off the beaten path to see film locations from the HBO Treme' series. Our sightseeing tour extraodinarre includes architecture, music history, Mardi Gras Indian history, and a trip to the Tomb of the Unknown Slave to discuss the history of slavery in New Orleans.

Hear the history of Mardi Gras Indian and Skull & Bone Gang traditions in the Treme'.

Do any tours include snacks, meals or drinks?

No tours provide any snacks, drinks or meals. However, guests are always welcome to bring drinks and snacks on the coaches (please don't make a mess and dispose of your trash!) and for longer combo tours, guests are also welcome to bring their own lunches and if you advise us in the "comment" section of your order checkout, please mention that you'd like a cooler available.

During City Tours, there will be a short (approx. 20 minutes) break for guests to use the restroom or purchase snacks or drinks. At the airboat and swamp tour dock locations, there are also snacks and drinks available for purchase. On the Plantation Tours, Oak Alley has a full-restaurant as well as snack bar and several areas on the grounds for guests to purchase drinks in the warmer months. Laura Plantation offers light snacks (think chips, cookies, crackers) and drinks (water, sodas).
